Located in the northern part of India, Chandigarh is the most unique city of India because of its different official status; Primarily, Chandigarh is the capital of two north Indian states namely Haryana and Punjab and it has special status of Union Territory, which is directly governed by central government (represented through a governor).
Secondly, this is the first city of India, which is planned post independence; the city is planned by Le Corbusier. However, most of the government buildings and other residential houses are designed collectively by Chandigarh Capital Project Team, which is administered by Jane Drew, Pierre Jeanneret, and Maxwell Fry.
Thirdly, under the list of HDI (Human Development Index), it is one of the most developed cities of India. And, last but not the least; it has been awarded as the cleanest city of India in the year 2010.
Geographically, positioned nearby the foothills of the Sivalik Range of the Lesser Himalaya, Chandigarh has a humid subtropical climate classified into: very hot summers, mild winters, unreliable rainfall with great variation in temperature. It shares its boundary with Punjab and Haryana. Further, it is very close to Himachal Pradesh.
