Formed on November 1, 1966, Haryana is one of the northern states of India. This state is separated from Punjab; however, still Chandigarh is the capital of both the states (Haryana and Punjab). As shown in the Haryana Map, it shares its state boundary with Punjab in the north-west, Rajasthan in the west and south-west, Uttar Pradesh in east, and Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh in the north; In addition, Delhi lies between the eastern border of Haryana and north-west border of Uttar Pradesh.

By virtue of being part of ‘Kuru’ region, Historically Haryana is pretty significant state. However, the name Haryana is first evidenced in the 12th century by Vibudh Shridhar, the apabhramsha writer. In addition, some parts of the state were the part of Indus Valley Civilization. The region is also eye witness of many decisive battles including the great epic Mahabharata (at Kurukshetra), three battles of Panipat etc. Battles of this region were fought throughout the late ancient and medieval period. These battles shaped the history and political geography of India.

Nonetheless, at present, Haryana is one of the developed states of India and leading producer of food grains and milk. Agriculture is one of the madin occupations in the state. Presence of rivers and developed canal systems have increased the agriculture produce. Besides, manufacturing industries in the state are also developed. It is the largest manufacturer of passenger cars, tractors, and two-wheelers. Adjacent to Delhi and popular as NCR, Gurgaon (one of the cities of Haryana) home of India’s largest automobile manufacturer Maruti Udyog Limited and Hero MotoCorp Limited, which is the largest manufacturer of two wheelers in the world.
