Located in the western part of India, Gujarat has always been the important and economically developed state. The state has one of the fastest growing economies; it is one of the most industrialized states; and, its GDP is almost double of the national GDP average. Furthermore, historically, the state is also very much significant; it is the site of one of the oldest civilizations of the world i.e. Indus Valley Civilization. Lothal and Dholavira are the two sites of Indus Valley Civilization. Lothal served as one of the oldest ports of the world. Over period of time, Bharuch another port city of Gujarat served Maurya and Gupta empires; Bharuch was the significant trade center. Above all, Gujarat is the birth place of India’s national father Mahatma Gandhi.

As shown on the given Gujarat Map, Gujarat shares its international boundary with Pakistan in the north-west and Arabian Sea lies in the west. However, it shares state boundary with Maharashtra in the south, Madhya Pradesh in the east, and Rajasthan in the north. Gandhinagar is the capital, but Ahmedabad is the largest city of the state.
Topography of Gujarat is relatively plain; Sabarmati is the main river of the state; however, Narmada and Tapi also cover significant area of the state. Further, in the west, Runn of Kutch is a huge geographic region; it is a salty marshy region.
