Golden Goa, known in the bygone era as Gomanchala, Gopakapuri, Govapuri, Govarashtra etc, abound in a rich historical heritage. Early history of Goa is Obscure. In the 1st century of the Christian era, it was a part of the Satvahana Empire followed by the Kadambas, the Rashtrakutas of Malkhed, the Chalukyas and the Silharas, the empire of Yadavas by the end of the 14th century was displaced by the Mughal emperor Khilji of Delhi and thus the Muslim rule came to Goa.

After the discovery of the sea route to India by Vasco-da –Gama in 1498, many Portuguese expeditions came to India in. in 1510, Alfonso de Albuquerque with the help of emperor of vijayanagar attacked and captured Goa. With the arrival of Jesuit saint Francisco Xavier in1542, proselytisation began in Goa. However, the Portuguese continued to rule over the territory except for an interlude during the latter half of the 17th century when Shivaji conquered a few areas around Goa. Even after the Indian independence, Goa contributes to be in the hands of in the Portuguese. However, they could not fulfill the aspiration of goan people and ultimately on December 19th 1961, after 451 years, Goa was liberated and made a composite Union Territory with Daman and Diu. Goa is the smallest state of Union Territory and is situated on the western coast of Indian peninsula. On its north runs the Terekhol River which separate Goa from Maharashtra and on south lays Kamataka. On the east lies in the Western Ghats and in the west in the Arabian Sea.

Goa is gifted with immense natural beauty and a rich historical past. It a host of attraction for visitors, holiday makers and connoisseurs of art. This is the land where the memories of past fuse with the present and every goan feel proud of its heritage. The entire state is dotted with some of the most magnificent churches, temple and age old forts and ruins and beautiful beaches that draw the administration of visitors. The most distinctive temples are Shri Manguesh and Shri Shantaduraga which are over 400 years old.
