Dibang Valley District came into existence on 1st June'1980 with its headquarter at Anini. Dibang Valley is bounded by Lohit in the south-east,Lower Dibang Valley in the South, East Siang in the West and by China in the North and North-East. It is bound by International border in the North-West, North and East with Tibet and China. The district headquarters are located at Daporijo. It is named after the river Dibang - one of the important tributaries of the mighty Brahmaputra. However Anini is a hilly place lying in the mountains close to the frontiers of China. Important rivers are Siang, Yamne, Nyigong. The river originates in the mountains of China and flows through the length of the valley, named after it. The headquarters of the two districts are Roing and Anini respectively. The District headquarter Anini is located at 1968 meters above sea level.
