Located in region of Eastern Himalaya, Arunachal Pradesh is one of the north-east states of India. It shares its international boundary with People’s Republic of China in the north, Myanmar (Burma) in the east, and Bhutan in the west. Further, it shares its state boundary with Nagaland and Assam in the south.

Further, the northern international boundary of Arunachal Pradesh is known as the McMahon Line; it is a border delineated in the Simla Agreement which was signed by the United Kingdom and Tibetan in 1914 and not by China. Therefore, it is a point of conflict because People's Republic of China (PRC) claims the northern portion of Arunachal Pradesh as part of the former provinces of Tibet Area and refers it as South Tibet.

Arunachal Pradesh is largely mountainous region; therefore, its climate is also varying from tundra, temperate to sub-tropical. Accordingly, its vegetation is also varies from Himalayan broadleaf forests, subalpine conifer forests to alpine shrub and at the high mountain, ice is found.
