Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu state is the largest city of southern India and the fourth largest metropolis in the country. The present town was founded in 1639, by Sir Francis day, who arrived with East India Company. The British East India Company established a fort and trading post at the small fishing village of Chennai. The city still retains a distinct British ambience, which is aptly reflected in its numerous buildings, old cathedrals and wide tree lined avenues. By Road: Chennai is connected by National Highway 4, 5 and 45.
