The massive dam near the confluence of Kaveri, Hemavathi and Lakshmana Tirtha rivers was designed and constructed by the famous architect M. Visvesvaraya in 1932.The dam is about 2621 meters long and 39 meters high while the reservoir covers an area of 130 sq. km.
